How long does it take to make money blogging?
I have been researching and I found some very good examples. One was a blogger making 5 figures after reaching over 10,000 articles worth of content on his blog.
The standard advice I see alot is that you should post around 5 articles per day every single day for a year before you see a profit. However, I personally suggest posting 10-20 articles per day. The more content you post on your blog, the more extry points in search engines that bring you traffic.
I have a blog on one of my business websites where I write professional articles related to the I.T. industry. I couldn’t have imagined the strange search phrases that brought in traffic. A good number of them came in from free tutorials on how to use software or install scripts. And when I found a company that had bad support after I purchased something from them, I setup my unofficial support page.
Other ways of generating traffic are to be proactive in social networks. Careful not to spam, and gradually get visitors by providing contributing content. You can put out articles on article publishing websites which allow for reposting along with your website link. When you do it that way you are basically having multiple webmasters promote your website. The end result is viral link building.
I use WordPress with a twitter plugin as well as digg buttons after every post. I also have a social media plugin for a large number of sharing sites my visitors can use. When you setup a blog you should keep in mind that this is long term and you need your own hosting account. That being said I recommend not using WordPress.com but rather downloading the software and buying a monthly or yearly hosting package and your own domain name. This will allow you maximum flexibility to do what you wish with your blog. With your own hosting you can install plugins. Currently you cannot do that with WordPress.com hosted blogs. The same goes with many other platforms.
In addition to the use of social media you can also rely on newsletters. You can install a newsletter system to allow readers to optin to future updates. This way you have a safelist to email and that list can grow into a huge number.
When you are creating content for your website you have to think what people want to read. My blog for example is pretty straight to the point. I say things that others would probably think twice about. But in the end it gets readers. I mean, who wants to read a wet blanket? You will also have to be able to write some useful content. Not just a blog with rants or complaints, but something with substance that provides information for someone searching desperately for it. You will be surprised what keyphrases bring in your highest traffic from search engines.
Whatever you do, make sure you are prepared just in case it actually does take a year to achieve a $1-$2k profit. If you have no life on your hands, or your financial situation allows then you can probably make that much in 6 months or less with dedication.

Heard that before
i believe that the best way of making money online is still monetizing your blog with Adsense or Adbrite. my income from blogging is still low but i am working hard to get more readers.
